Got some time this summer? Want to play with string? Have I got things for you!

Registration is now open for Peters Valley Craft Center’s summer workshops. I asked if I could come back outside of hurricane season, so I could experience the joys of having power and running water. I’m teaching a combined tablet weaving and sprang class June 29 – July 3, 2012. Out in the woods, in the summer, with nothing to do but play with string. It will be wonderful!

National Parks not your thing? How about Washington DC instead? Complex Weavers will be in Chevy Chase, MD from September 12 – 15, 2012. I’m teaching a session on edges: integral and added-on treatments for commercial and handwoven fabric drawn from ethnic and historical textiles. (Now there’s a mouthful, but I have some neat things to show.) Registration opens April 15.

Looking farther afield? Unfortunately this year’s Textilforum is opposite Complex Weavers, so I won’t be able to go. The topic is Metals for Texile Crafts, and it will be held in Mayen, Germany.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
