A friend is learning tablet weaving, and that makes me happy!
He and a bunch of FB commenters were bemoaning how slow and tedious and frustrating warping is, and that makes me sad!
People who really don’t enjoy the setup process won’t do the art. But warping doesn’t have to be dismal! Efficient setup is a combination of equipment, experience, and knowing the tricks, and I can teach two of those.
I needed a couple of warps, so I timed myself. The first one, a two-yard warp with twenty tablets, took me eleven minutes. The second one is more complicated and longer, and took twenty-three. Total time, just over half an hour, including trying to figure out where I’d set my scissors.
They’re chained rather than on a loom, sure, but that’s easy enough, and if I were using an inkle loom I’d be completely done.
Clearly I need to put a class together.
