Up close and personal

I put my holiday gift certificates toward a macro lens for my DSLR, specifically for the purpose of photographing flowers. And string, but did I really need to even say that? And here it is spring already, and there are beginning to be flowers, so I finally ordered it, and it arrived yesterday.

In the pouring rain, and sleet, and freezing rain, accompanied by a bit of snow. No outdoor photography for me. I consoled myself with photographing string instead (click for big).

dyed silk

That’s the silk I dyed earlier this week. With all the rain it wasn’t quite dry enough to ship off. It looks a lot better now, doesn’t it?

sock close-up

Socks I’ve been working on for ages, in yarn I dyed.

Tablet weaving I’ve been working on for even longer, also in yarn I dyed.

I should mention that these were all under crappy lighting (my office is very poorly lit) with flash. Not too bad! I’m rather pleased with the initial performance of my new lens, and looking forward to giving it a real workout.

Wow, up close and personal with silk and yarn!Great shots, i can practically feel them. Gorgeous colors!! What a fun spring you have ahead. A whole new perspective:)

I actually went out in my slippers to get the last snow shots of the year, I hope? I think they are called snow drops, tiny purple flowers blooming amongst the snow. Lovely. Thank you for sharing, looking forward to more.

Welcome!

I’ve been doing stuff with string for quite some time, and describing it to others online since 1996 or so at Phiala’s String Page.

I also do some science and write some fiction.

I’m Phiala most places on the internet.
