Ply-split Braiding

Ply-split braiding uses plied cords (often 4-ply) which actually go through each other. It is a traditional method for making camel girths and similar bands in India, but can also be used to create three- dimensional structures and elaborate patterns.

I’m not going to write a techniques section because Peter Collingwood’s articles from Weavers magazine are already available online.

  • Peter Collingwood has a book on the subject, Techniques of Ply-Split Braiding.

  • Photos of ply-split items and more information are available from Linda Hendrickson’s web page, along with her many books.
