Fiber, Fabric, and Fighting XXIV

FFF will return to the Seven Mountains Scout Camp the weekend of November 20-22, 2026. Please see the event announcement for details on the site, dayboard, bunk space, and general registration.

The Fiber Arts Salon area will return, with equipment including a warping board, umbrella swift, and skein winder, and plenty of string and small equipment. When Phiala isn’t teaching in that space, come use the equipment, ask questions, or spend time working on projects in company. Try fingerloop braiding. Learn a flat braid. Sit and chat. Get help with tablet weaving.

Hispano-Flemish Men’s Clothing

This class is an in depth study of men’s clothing in Spain from 1480 to 1530.
90 minutes.

Viking Age Jorvik-style Cap

Finds from Viking Age York and Dublin include small caps made from rectangular pieces of fabric. While we aren’t sure how they were worn, or by whom, we do know that they make a great accessory for the Viking Age SCAdian. This class discusses the different styles that have been found how to make one for yourself.
50 minutes.

$2 for a linen piece, otherwise bring your own rectangle at least 10x24 in. Please bring needle, thread, snips to sew your cap with. Some tape measures will be available for use.

Weaving a piece with 4 selvedge edges

We will warp and weave a small piece with no cut edges. Really. All four edges of the pieces are whole edges that will not fray. This is a hands on class. I will provide simple looms and string. I will have large blunt needles to lend. Please feel free to bring your own as well.
This could easily go longer than 50 mins but I can also just have folks follow up with me later in the day if they like.
