{"id":811,"date":"2012-01-17T14:05:28","date_gmt":"2012-01-17T19:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stringpage.com\/blog\/?p=811"},"modified":"2012-01-17T19:08:30","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T00:08:30","slug":"dont-be-alarmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.stringpage.com\/blog\/?p=811","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t be alarmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If this site, in its entirety, is <a href=\"https:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/013461.html\">down<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/https:\/\/sopastrike.com\/\">tomorrow<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>SOPA and PIPA are utterly appalling pieces of potential US legislation, and would likely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eff.org\/deeplinks\/2012\/01\/how-pipa-and-sopa-violate-white-house-principles-supporting-free-speech\">destroy the internet<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2012\/01\/14\/boing-boing-will-go-dark-on-ja.html\">as a community<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not that I expect my tiny participation in tomorrow&#8217;s blackout campaign to have any effect, but I want to add my support. The internet has been crucial to my life in many ways, and all of them could go away. All of the sites I maintain will be down, including the business pages, joining many much more influential sites. Like, oh, Wikipedia, and Reddit, and Boing Boing. (Note: this won&#8217;t affect the LJ feed; I have no control over their servers.) <\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunpig.com\/martin\/archives\/2012\/01\/17\/site-protest-blackouts-with-htaccess.html\">one way to join in if<\/a> you maintain a website of your own.<\/p>\n<p>And on second thought, be very alarmed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Edit:<\/strong> All rumors to the contrary, SOPA is not dead, just <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20120117\/12563317437\/its-baaaaaaaaack-lamar-smith-says-sopa-markup-to-resume-february.shtml\">tabled until February<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/013466.html\">irony is not dead<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If this site, in its entirety, is down tomorrow.
