I’ve been so busy that I haven’t even been reading much, although I did get several moved from “underway” to “done”. And you all know that I haven’t been writing much! I have lots of long, interesting string articles underway, but none finished. A booklist post is pretty to put together, since I keep notes as I finish something, so that’s what you get today. It’s rainy, I’m tired and unambitious. Tomorrow there will be a string article.<\/p>\n

\nMore summer reading, this time in the thriller genre. Kind of like Clive Cussler.<\/p>\n

Jacqueline Carey: Kushiel’s Dart<\/a>\"\"
\nThe first book in the series, lays out an interesting dark fantasy\/romance landscape populated with complex (if somewhat whiny) characters.<\/p>\n

J.K. Rowling: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)<\/a>\"\"
\nDo I really need to say anything?<\/p>\n

Helene Bress: Inkle Weaving<\/a>\"\". Decent introduction to inkle weaving techniques, many of which can be done on other sorts of band looms.<\/p>\n

Kate Elliott: In the Ruins<\/a>\"\"
\nHa! Finally got caught back up in the story after a long separation between this book and the previous one in the series. Must go to the library and pick up the last one. Just like movies, this seems to be a summer for series.<\/p>\n

Lawrence Goldstone: The Friar and the Cipher: Roger Bacon and the Unsolved Mystery of the Most Unusual Manuscript in the World<\/a>\"\"
\nI disagree with the basic premise – that Roger Bacon had anything to do with the Voynich Manuscript – but the author does a good job of describing the society and science surrounding Bacon and his intellectual successors.<\/p>\n
