If I waited around to be inspired to write, I would end up having to do something else with my work life, because only writing under the influence of inspiration doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t typically bring in sufficient income.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>and:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>TH: What about the writing process most appeals to you?<\/p>\n<p>JS: Playing with words and ideas; I do a lot of plotting while writing, so that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s always fun. I also like the actual physical act of typing. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fun to see my brain work through my fingers that way.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Plus an article by <a href=\"https:\/\/subterraneanpress.com\/index.php\/magazine\/summer-2008\/column-bears-examing-7-dirty-secrets-by-elizabeth-bear\/\">Elizabeth Bear<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThe big secret is this: learning is about failing. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s about trying very, very hard to do something that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a little bit harder than you can pull off, and then not pulling it off, and then trying again and again until you complete it\u00e2\u20ac\u201cno matter how awkwardly. And it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s also about attempting harder and harder things, so that you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re always working on something that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s just a little beyond the edge of your ability. Because you don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t get better if you stay within your ability.
