Widespread East Coast Mess

There’s a crow outside my window. Is that a good or bad omen, do you suppose?

I have the usual list of excuses:

  • Travelling upsets my routine and it takes a while to get back into blogging.
  • I’m busy at work.
  • All of my extra energy is going into other projects.
  • The days have been gray, and I need sunlight for proper function.
  • My motivation has gone south for the winter. It was reportedly seen on an Australian beach. A sunny, warm Australian beach.

All of those are true, and none of them. I’m torn in a dozen different directions, and whichever project I’m working on, something else feels more important/urgent/interesting. They all are some combination of those three, and yet I’d still rather curl up on the couch with a cup of tea, a cat, and Anathem, by Neal Stephenson. Or a book by Elizabeth Bear, or a sixteenth century account of the Spanish in the New World with the enticing title “A Brief Account of the Destruction of the Indies
Or, a faithful NARRATIVE OF THE Horrid and Unexampled Massacres, Butcheries, and all manner of Cruelties, that Hell and Malice could invent, committed by the Popish Spanish Party on the inhabitants of West-India, TOGETHER With the Devastations of several Kingdoms in America by Fire and Sword, for the space of Forty and Two Years, from the time of its first Discovery by them.”

Wow.

None of the things actually getting done involve string. I worked on the interminable socks over Thanksgiving, but they are not done. I have not done any tablet weaving, nor fixed the loom. I have done much thinking about various projects, planning blog articles, and suchlike, but none are presentable.

Since I have nothing but whining to share, let me instead distract you with some photos from my walk in today.

Icy stopsign

Icy holly

The local schools have been canceled for the day, and probably will be tomorrow as well, as this is projected to get much worse. AccuWeather, my favorite source for hysterical predictions, calls this a “Widespread East Coast Mess”.

And ya know, I could really use a snow day!

Edit: Apparently I can’t even be bothered to add a title to my post!

Crows are good. The holly looks lovely. The skull stickers have been a big hit here. I traded one for a dining room table and chairs — who knew they’d be such good currency for geeks? ;)

Let your motivation have fun on the beach for a day or so… then it’ll come back. ;)
