Friday lunkhead

Trygvi is settling in. He’s filled out nicely, and he’s going to be so disappointed when we stop cramming him full of food and settle on a maintenance diet. We’ve gone through two dog beds, and all the squeaky toys, even the new nearly indestructible one.

Try has learned some basics, like “sit” and “leave it,” but has so far utterly failed to understand that me kneecap doesn’t go in hi mouth.

This morning he found a black walnut while out walking. Best. Toy. Ever. It rolls, and can be picked up, tossed, dropped in the fallen leaves and snuffled after. After chasing it in circles for a while, Tryg carried it nearly a block, stopping every few steps to chase it down the sidewallk.

    *like* :-)

Never buy pet toys. IME, they find better things themselves.

Sticks are awesome. Haka just about wets himself in excitement when you give him a stick. And when he breaks it into bits, there is always another stick. He’s 1 yr 8 months now and is finally not instantly destroying toys, I have hopes.

Wow, he is filling out nicely. Really noticeable just in the few weeks since we saw him. Lucky dog to have been found by you.

Have you heard of Clicker Training? Its an effective way to communicate and train an animal that doesn’t speak human. They use it to train aquatic mammals, horses, dogs, cats, chickens and with a flashlight using the same principle a goldfish.

This site has some useful training articles – http://www.clickersolutions.com/articles/index.htm

    Good luck!

We buy him pet toys because we disapprove of and/or want to keep (intact) some of the toys he selects for himself.

You know, shoes, furniture, toes, books……

I love my cats, but sometimes I really miss having a dog. *sigh*
